Fall brings beautiful foliage—and often, heavy rains. These rains can put extra stress on your sewer lines, especially if they’re already compromised by age or previous damage. A blocked or damaged sewer line can lead to backups, foul odors, and costly repairs.

1. Tree Roots
As trees prepare for winter, their roots seek out moisture, often infiltrating sewer lines through small cracks. This can lead to blockages or even break the pipe.
2. Clay or Cast-Iron Pipes

3. Debris in Drains

4. Faulty Sump Pump
Sump pumps help to divert excess water away from your foundation and sewer line, preventing flooding and overloading your sewer system. Test your sump pump by pouring water into the sump pit to see if it activates and drains correctly.
5. Slow Drains
Slow drains are often a sign of a blockage somewhere in your sewer line. If you notice any slow drains, have them inspected and cleaned out as soon as possible. Regular maintenance can prevent these minor issues from turning into expensive repairs.
